An apostille can only be issued in the country where the document was issued. For a document from Romania that means Romania’s designated authority; no other country can apostille it. We coordinate the submission in Romania, the notary reviews your application first, and the document is returned with the apostille – by courier or, where Romania issues electronic apostilles, as a verified PDF.

Typical requests from Romania concern property, inheritance and family matters. EU member and CIEC state: civil-status documents are exempt; powers of attorney, diplomas and company documents need the apostille and a Romanian authorised translation.

Authority fee: For the notarial acts, there is a single fee amounting to 35 lei + VAT (20%). For administrative documents, the apostille is free. For the judicial documents, the judicial stamp fee is of 10 LEI for each document that the Apostille is applied to (art. 22 letter a) of the Emergency Ordinance no. 80/2 (official fee, passed through 1:1 in your quote)

Apostille in Romania: questions

Under Article 6 of the Convention Romania has designated: Tribunals; are competent authorities for the official documents referred to in article 1 letters a) and d) of the Convention;; Chambers of Notaries Public; are competent authorities for the official documents referred to in article 1 letter c) of the Convention;. The notary reviews your application and we route the document to the right office.

In all Contracting States except Kosovo: an Article 12 objection is in force between them, so documents for these states need consular legalisation instead. Non-Convention countries (for example the UAE, Qatar, Egypt) always need legalisation.

The authority’s fee listed with the HCCH: For the notarial acts, there is a single fee amounting to 35 lei + VAT (20%). For administrative documents, the apostille is free. For the judicial documents, the judicial stamp fee is of 10 LEI for each document that the Apostille is applied to (art. 22 letter a) of the Emergency Ordinance no. 80/2. Official fees are passed through 1:1 and shown separately from Notaryzer’s service fee in your written quote; nothing is charged before you accept.

The apostille itself is standardised and accepted without translation. The document is in Romanian; most recipients abroad want a sworn or certified translation into their language, which we add in the same order.

The Convention has been in force for Romania since March 16, 2001.
