An apostille can only be issued in the country where the document was issued. For a document from Australia that means Australia’s designated authority; no other country can apostille it. We coordinate the submission in Australia, the notary reviews your application first, and the document is returned with the apostille – by courier or, where Australia issues electronic apostilles, as a verified PDF.

Practical information from the HCCH record: Please note that from 13 October 2014, certificates issued by Australia contain four letters followed by the next sequential number. Previously certificates were issued with an alphanumeric containing only one letter and four numbers. The price for an apostille may be subject to annual increase effective 1 January.

Authority fee: $102 Australian dollars (effective January 2025) (official fee, passed through 1:1 in your quote)

Where an apostille from Australia is not enough

No Contracting State has an objection in force against Australia: the apostille is accepted in every other Convention country. Non-Convention countries (UAE, Qatar, Egypt, Iraq …) still require consular legalisation.
