An apostille can only be issued in the country where the document was issued. For a document from Hungary that means Hungary’s designated authority; no other country can apostille it. We coordinate the submission in Hungary, the notary reviews your application first, and the document is returned with the apostille – by courier or, where Hungary issues electronic apostilles, as a verified PDF.
Typical requests from Hungary concern company matters, property and employment. EU member: civil-status documents are exempt; notarial and company documents need the apostille and an OFFI-certified Hungarian translation.

Where an apostille from Hungary is not enough
No Contracting State has an objection in force against Hungary: the apostille is accepted in every other Convention country. Non-Convention countries (UAE, Qatar, Egypt, Iraq …) still require consular legalisation.

Hungary designates its competent authorities under Article 6 of the Convention; the notary reviews your application and we route the document to the right office.
In every other Contracting State – no objection is in force against Hungary. Non-Convention countries (for example the UAE, Qatar, Egypt) still need consular legalisation.

The apostille itself is standardised and accepted without translation. The document is in Hungarian; most recipients abroad want a sworn or certified translation into their language, which we add in the same order.
The Convention has been in force for Hungary since January 18, 1973.
