Portugal is an EU member state and a Convention party. Between EU member states, civil-status documents – and police certificates of a citizen’s own member state – need no apostille (Regulation 2016/1191); the multilingual standard form replaces a translation. For documents from outside the EU, and for diplomas, notarial deeds, court and company documents, the apostille of the issuing country is required.
Typical requests for Portugal concern residence (D7, golden visa), property and pensions. Authorities in Portugal generally expect documents in Portuguese; where a document is not bilingual, we add a sworn translation, and for several countries the translator’s signature is apostilled as well. EU member and CIEC state: civil-status documents are exempt; notarial deeds and diplomas need the apostille and a certified Portuguese translation.
Notaryzer handles it end to end: the notary reviews your application, we organise the apostille or legalisation in the issuing country, arrange the translation and ship the result to you or directly to the recipient in Portugal.
