North Macedonia has applied the Hague Apostille Convention since November 17, 1991. Public documents from other Convention countries – civil-status certificates, diplomas, police certificates, notarial deeds, court decisions and company documents – are accepted in North Macedonia with an apostille from the issuing country, unless an Article 12 objection is in force between the two states. No embassy or consular step is required.
North Macedonia applies the CIEC convention on multilingual civil-status extracts: birth, marriage and death extracts on the international form from another participating state replace both apostille and translation.
Other documents – powers of attorney for property and inheritance, diplomas, court decrees, company documents – need an apostille and a translation into Macedonian by a court translator. Macedonian documents are frequently needed abroad for work visas, study, marriage and family reunification, and for recognition of qualifications.
Notaryzer handles it end to end: the notary reviews your application, we organise the apostille or legalisation in the issuing country, arrange the translation and ship the result to you or directly to the recipient in North Macedonia.
- Order civil-status documents as multilingual CIEC extracts where possible
- Have the Macedonian translation made by a court translator
- For diploma recognition, ask the recipient whether it wants the apostille on the original or on a notarised copy
