Bangladesh has applied the Hague Apostille Convention since March 30, 2025. Public documents from other Convention countries – civil-status certificates, diplomas, police certificates, notarial deeds, court decisions and company documents – are accepted in Bangladesh with an apostille from the issuing country, unless an Article 12 objection is in force between the two states. No embassy or consular step is required.
Austria, Argentina, Belgium, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Lithuania and the Netherlands have raised Article 12 objections to Bangladesh’s accession. Between Bangladesh and each of these states the apostille is not accepted in either direction: documents for Bangladesh are legalised by the Bangladeshi mission after certification in the issuing country, and Bangladeshi documents are legalised or verified by the destination state’s mission – Germany, for example, verifies them through its Embassy in Dhaka.
With all other Convention countries – such as the United Kingdom, the United States, Italy or Spain – a Bangladeshi apostille from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is sufficient. This matters for students heading to the UK, workers going abroad and families registering marriages or births; academic certificates may first need attestation by the education authorities before the Ministry acts.
Documents issued in Bengali need a translation into the language of the destination country; for use in Bangladesh, English documents are widely accepted.
Notaryzer handles it end to end: the notary reviews your application, we organise the apostille or legalisation in the issuing country, arrange the translation and ship the result to you or directly to the recipient in Bangladesh.
