Ukraine has applied the Hague Apostille Convention since December 22, 2003. Public documents from other Convention countries – civil-status certificates, diplomas, police certificates, notarial deeds, court decisions and company documents – are accepted in Ukraine with an apostille from the issuing country, unless an Article 12 objection is in force between the two states. No embassy or consular step is required.
Ukrainian apostilles are issued by the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Ministry of Education and Science, depending on the document: civil-status, notarial and court documents, other official documents, and educational documents respectively. Foreign documents with an apostille are accepted by Ukrainian civil registry offices (DRACS), notaries, courts, universities and consulates.
With millions of Ukrainians living abroad, the most frequent requests are birth certificates of children born outside Ukraine for registration with a consulate or registry, marriage and divorce documents, powers of attorney for property and family matters in Ukraine, and school and university certificates for studies and work. Ukrainian authorities require Ukrainian translations, generally certified by a Ukrainian notary or a Ukrainian consulate.
Notaryzer handles it end to end: the notary reviews your application, we organise the apostille or legalisation in the issuing country, arrange the translation and ship the result to you or directly to the recipient in Ukraine.
- Powers of attorney: bilingual text with Ukrainian, notarised and apostilled
- Children born abroad: obtain an apostilled birth certificate for the Ukrainian consulate or registry
- Ukrainian documents: check whether the Ministry of Justice, Foreign Affairs or Education is responsible
