Both countries are party to the Hague Apostille Convention and it is in force between them. The competent authority of the issuing country attaches the apostille; no embassy step is required. Ask the recipient whether a sworn translation is expected – we add it in the same order.

Moldova has applied the Hague Apostille Convention since March 16, 2007. Public documents from other Convention countries – civil-status certificates, diplomas, police certificates, notarial deeds, court decisions and company documents – are accepted in Moldova with an apostille from the issuing country, unless an Article 12 objection is in force between the two states. No embassy or consular step is required.

Germany originally objected to Moldova’s accession but withdrew the objection in 2026, so the apostille now works between Moldova and every other Convention country. Moldova itself has objected to Kosovo’s accession: between Moldova and Kosovo the apostille is not accepted.

Civil-status documents can be issued and used as CIEC multilingual extracts. Other documents – powers of attorney, diplomas, court decisions, company documents – need an apostille and a translation into Romanian, the official language. Moldovan birth and marriage certificates are often needed abroad, for example for Romanian citizenship procedures, work permits, study and family reunification.

Notaryzer handles it end to end: the notary reviews your application, we organise the apostille or legalisation in the issuing country, arrange the translation and ship the result to you or directly to the recipient in Moldova.

  • Translate into Romanian; Russian is widely used but is not the official language
  • Use CIEC multilingual extracts for birth and marriage records where accepted
  • Documents between Moldova and Kosovo need legalisation, not an apostille
