Kazakhstan has applied the Hague Apostille Convention since January 30, 2001. Public documents from other Convention countries – civil-status certificates, diplomas, police certificates, notarial deeds, court decisions and company documents – are accepted in Kazakhstan with an apostille from the issuing country, unless an Article 12 objection is in force between the two states. No embassy or consular step is required.

No Contracting State objects to Kazakhstan’s accession, so civil-status documents, diplomas, powers of attorney and corporate documents from other Convention countries are accepted with an apostille. In Kazakhstan, apostilles are issued by different ministries depending on the type of document.

Kazakh recipients require translations into Kazakh or Russian, usually certified by a notary in Kazakhstan; sworn translations from abroad with an apostilled translator’s signature are also accepted by many offices. Between Kazakhstan and other parties to the CIS Minsk Convention, official documents generally need no apostille at all.

Typical cases are powers of attorney for property and business in Kazakhstan, birth and marriage certificates for residence and citizenship matters, and company documents for registering a branch or subsidiary.

Notaryzer handles it end to end: the notary reviews your application, we organise the apostille or legalisation in the issuing country, arrange the translation and ship the result to you or directly to the recipient in Kazakhstan.

  • Ask whether the Kazakh recipient wants the translation certified by a Kazakh notary
  • Powers of attorney: prepare a bilingual text to avoid a separate translation
  • Check whether the Minsk Convention exempts your document from the apostille
