Uzbekistan has applied the Hague Apostille Convention since April 15, 2012. Public documents from other Convention countries – civil-status certificates, diplomas, police certificates, notarial deeds, court decisions and company documents – are accepted in Uzbekistan with an apostille from the issuing country, unless an Article 12 objection is in force between the two states. No embassy or consular step is required.
Because of Article 12 objections by Germany, Austria and Greece, the apostille is not accepted between Uzbekistan and those three states in either direction. Documents from there for Uzbekistan are authenticated in the issuing country and legalised by the Uzbek embassy or consulate; Uzbek documents for those states are legalised by, or verified through, their missions in Tashkent. With all other Convention parties the apostille applies.
Uzbek authorities work in Uzbek, and Russian is widely used; foreign documents are usually expected with a translation into one of them. Between Uzbekistan and other parties to the CIS Minsk Convention, official documents generally need no apostille.
Typical cases are degrees and vocational certificates of skilled workers and nurses moving abroad, powers of attorney and affidavits for property and family matters in Uzbekistan, and marriage and birth certificates.
Notaryzer handles it end to end: the notary reviews your application, we organise the apostille or legalisation in the issuing country, arrange the translation and ship the result to you or directly to the recipient in Uzbekistan.
- Check first whether the other country is Germany, Austria or Greece – then plan for legalisation or verification
- Skilled workers: start the degree and vocational-certificate route early, as verification can take long
- Ask whether the Uzbek recipient wants an Uzbek or a Russian translation
