Georgia has applied the Hague Apostille Convention since May 14, 2007. Public documents from other Convention countries – civil-status certificates, diplomas, police certificates, notarial deeds, court decisions and company documents – are accepted in Georgia with an apostille from the issuing country, unless an Article 12 objection is in force between the two states. No embassy or consular step is required.

Georgian apostilles are issued through the Public Service Development Agency and the Public Service Halls. Apostilled foreign documents are accepted by the Public Service Hall, notaries, courts and the public registry, for example for company formation, property purchases, marriage and residence permits.

Georgian recipients usually expect a translation into Georgian certified by a notary in Georgia; foreign translations are not always accepted, so it often makes sense to have the translation done locally. Georgian documents going abroad are typically birth and marriage certificates, diplomas and police certificates for work, study and family reunification.

Georgia has objected to Kosovo’s accession, so the apostille does not apply between Georgia and Kosovo.

Notaryzer handles it end to end: the notary reviews your application, we organise the apostille or legalisation in the issuing country, arrange the translation and ship the result to you or directly to the recipient in Georgia.

  • Plan for a Georgian translation certified by a notary in Georgia
  • Company formation: apostilled register extract and power of attorney are the usual starting point
  • Documents between Georgia and Kosovo need legalisation instead of an apostille
