Indonesia has applied the Hague Apostille Convention since June 4, 2022. Public documents from other Convention countries – civil-status certificates, diplomas, police certificates, notarial deeds, court decisions and company documents – are accepted in Indonesia with an apostille from the issuing country, unless an Article 12 objection is in force between the two states. No embassy or consular step is required.

In Indonesia apostilles are issued by the Ministry of Law (formerly the Ministry of Law and Human Rights) through its Directorate General of General Legal Administration (AHU), with applications made online. No state has objected to Indonesia’s accession.

Foreign documents used in Indonesia – certificates of no impediment and birth certificates for marriage, powers of attorney, register extracts and articles of association for foreign-owned companies (PT PMA), diplomas for work permits – are accepted with an apostille. Indonesian authorities require translations by a sworn translator (penerjemah tersumpah).

Indonesian documents are often needed abroad by workers going to Japan, Korea or the Gulf, by students and by spouses: birth and marriage certificates, diplomas and police certificates (SKCK) are the most common.

Notaryzer handles it end to end: the notary reviews your application, we organise the apostille or legalisation in the issuing country, arrange the translation and ship the result to you or directly to the recipient in Indonesia.

  • Use a penerjemah tersumpah for Indonesian translations
  • Indonesian apostilles are requested online through the AHU system
  • PT PMA formation: have the foreign shareholder’s register extract and power of attorney apostilled
