Suriname has applied the Hague Apostille Convention since November 25, 1975. Public documents from other Convention countries – civil-status certificates, diplomas, police certificates, notarial deeds, court decisions and company documents – are accepted in Suriname with an apostille from the issuing country, unless an Article 12 objection is in force between the two states. No embassy or consular step is required.
Typical requests for Suriname concern family matters and residence. Authorities in Suriname generally expect documents in Dutch; where a document is not bilingual, we add a sworn translation, and for several countries the translator’s signature is apostilled as well. Dutch-language documents need no translation for Surinamese authorities; documents in other languages need a Dutch translation.
Notaryzer handles it end to end: the notary reviews your application, we organise the apostille or legalisation in the issuing country, arrange the translation and ship the result to you or directly to the recipient in Suriname.
