Iceland has applied the Hague Apostille Convention since November 27, 2004. Public documents from other Convention countries – civil-status certificates, diplomas, police certificates, notarial deeds, court decisions and company documents – are accepted in Iceland with an apostille from the issuing country, unless an Article 12 objection is in force between the two states. No embassy or consular step is required.

Typical requests for Iceland concern employment and residence. Authorities in Iceland generally expect documents in Icelandic or English; where a document is not bilingual, we add a sworn translation, and for several countries the translator’s signature is apostilled as well. EEA but not EU, so Regulation 2016/1191 does not apply – civil-status documents need the apostille.

Notaryzer handles it end to end: the notary reviews your application, we organise the apostille or legalisation in the issuing country, arrange the translation and ship the result to you or directly to the recipient in Iceland.
