Hong Kong has applied the Hague Apostille Convention since July 1, 1997. Public documents from other Convention countries – civil-status certificates, diplomas, police certificates, notarial deeds, court decisions and company documents – are accepted in Hong Kong with an apostille from the issuing country, unless an Article 12 objection is in force between the two states. No embassy or consular step is required.
Typical requests for Hong Kong concern company formation, banking and employment. Authorities in Hong Kong generally expect documents in Chinese or English; where a document is not bilingual, we add a sworn translation, and for several countries the translator’s signature is apostilled as well. Hong Kong has applied the Convention since 1965 via the UK; English documents are accepted without translation.
Notaryzer handles it end to end: the notary reviews your application, we organise the apostille or legalisation in the issuing country, arrange the translation and ship the result to you or directly to the recipient in Hong Kong.
