A sworn translation is produced by a translator appointed or sworn by a court or ministry – a traductor jurado in Spain, a traducteur assermenté in France, a tradutor juramentado in Brazil, a beeidigter Übersetzer in Germany, a yeminli tercüman in Türkiye. Because the translator’s signature is registered with a public body, the apostille authority can certify it. Authorities in Türkiye, Russia, Kazakhstan, most of Latin America and several Gulf states require exactly this second apostille on the translation.

The typical bundle is therefore: apostille on the original document (from its issuing country), sworn translation into the target language, apostille on the translation (from the country where the translator is sworn). The order matters: the translation must include the first apostille, so it is produced after the original has been apostilled. Some destinations instead require the translation to be made by a translator sworn in the destination country – we tell you which applies.

Notaryzer coordinates translators in the right language pair and country, sequences the two apostilles correctly and ships the complete set.

Frequently asked: sworn translation (apostille on the translator’s certification) apostille

Yes – an authority can only apostille signatures registered with it. A translation made in Spain by a traductor jurado is apostilled in Spain; one made in Germany, in Germany.

It can, but most recipients want the apostille on the original to appear in the translation. We therefore translate after the first apostille unless you tell us the recipient does not care.

Sworn or certified translators exist for more than 50 languages across our partner countries; Turkish, Russian, Ukrainian, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, Polish, French, Italian, German and English are handled within days.
