Pakistan has applied the Hague Apostille Convention since March 9, 2023. Public documents from other Convention countries – civil-status certificates, diplomas, police certificates, notarial deeds, court decisions and company documents – are accepted in Pakistan with an apostille from the issuing country, unless an Article 12 objection is in force between the two states. No embassy or consular step is required.
Pakistani apostilles are issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Documents usually need prior verification by the relevant body – the Higher Education Commission (HEC) for degrees, the IBCC for school certificates, NADRA-registered civil-status documents from the union council – before the apostille can be issued.
Article 12 objections by Austria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Greece, the Netherlands and Poland are in force. Between Pakistan and each of these states the apostille is not accepted in either direction; documents go through consular legalisation, and Pakistani documents are often verified by the destination country’s mission in Pakistan. With other Convention states the apostille applies.
Typical cases are student and work visas, family reunification with marriage and birth records, and, for documents used in Pakistan, powers of attorney and declarations for property, inheritance and family matters. English is widely used officially, so English documents often need no translation.
Notaryzer handles it end to end: the notary reviews your application, we organise the apostille or legalisation in the issuing country, arrange the translation and ship the result to you or directly to the recipient in Pakistan.
- Check whether the destination country objected before ordering a Pakistani apostille
- Degrees: HEC attestation first, then the MOFA apostille
- Powers of attorney for Pakistani property: confirm the wording the registrar or bank expects
