Both countries are party to the Hague Apostille Convention and it is in force between them. The competent authority of the issuing country attaches the apostille; no embassy step is required. Ask the recipient whether a sworn translation is expected – we add it in the same order.

Morocco has applied the Hague Apostille Convention since August 14, 2016. Public documents from other Convention countries – civil-status certificates, diplomas, police certificates, notarial deeds, court decisions and company documents – are accepted in Morocco with an apostille from the issuing country, unless an Article 12 objection is in force between the two states. No embassy or consular step is required.

Moroccan apostilles are issued through the court system, by the public prosecution offices at the courts of first instance. Germany raised an Article 12 objection to Morocco’s accession, so between Morocco and Germany the apostille is not accepted and documents go through consular legalisation or verification; with other Convention states the apostille applies.

Moroccan authorities generally require documents in Arabic or French, with translations by a sworn translator recognised in Morocco. Typical cases are marriages involving a foreign spouse, property purchases, company formation, inheritance and powers of attorney, and, for Moroccan documents abroad, civil-status records, diplomas and police certificates for visas and family reunification.

Notaryzer handles it end to end: the notary reviews your application, we organise the apostille or legalisation in the issuing country, arrange the translation and ship the result to you or directly to the recipient in Morocco.

  • Documents between Morocco and Germany need legalisation, not an apostille
  • Have translations into Arabic or French made by a sworn translator recognised in Morocco
  • Marriage files: ask the Moroccan authority for its document list before starting
