Burundi has applied the Hague Apostille Convention since February 13, 2015. Public documents from other Convention countries – civil-status certificates, diplomas, police certificates, notarial deeds, court decisions and company documents – are accepted in Burundi with an apostille from the issuing country, unless an Article 12 objection is in force between the two states. No embassy or consular step is required.
Note: Germany, Austria, Czechia, and Poland objected to Burundi’s accession, so between Burundi and those states the apostille is not accepted and legalisation applies.
Typical requests for Burundi concern family reunification and adoption. Authorities in Burundi generally expect documents in French or Kirundi; where a document is not bilingual, we add a sworn translation, and for several countries the translator’s signature is apostilled as well. Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic and Poland objected to Burundi’s accession; between those states documents are legalised instead.
Notaryzer handles it end to end: the notary reviews your application, we organise the apostille or legalisation in the issuing country, arrange the translation and ship the result to you or directly to the recipient in Burundi.
